Such a great frosting if you need to decorate and don’t want anything runny. Every single recipe always asks for meringue powder…which I don’t have in my home. So I was pleased to see this one didn’t. There are recipes … Continue reading →
It’s seriously that time of year…I can’t believe this year soon will be coming to an end. I’ll at times think about what next week has in store and I keep forgetting that it is Christmas next week. Crazy! Love … Continue reading →
I can’t believe it is almost here, like a day away here! I love this tradition with our family. I have been doing this since I remember as a little kid so I am so excited to start it with our little one. That is what is so fun about the holidays, starting or having those fun traditions with your family.
Some people haven’t heard of this tradition so I am going to give you the story behind it and if you haven’t already, you could start St. Nicholas Day.
St. Nicholas day originated over in Europe in the 1200’s. He was a Christian priest who had lots of money and would travel around to homes to give gifts and presents to little children . He wanted to keep it a secret and to have no one know who was sending the gifts . One story is about a poor man who had no money to give his three daughters for their wedding. St. Nicholas dropped of bags of gold (thats why you see the golden chocolate candies) in their stockings which were hung over the fire to dry. Every night of December 5th, the girls would hang their stockings up over the fireplace to see if gifts would end up back in their stockings. So the stocking tradition began there!
So many countries have had different traditions since then. Netherlands & Belgium, St. Nicholas arrives by steamship and rides a white horse giving gifts. In the Netherlands, they have candies, small gifts and riddles- which they throw into the door. Germans/Dutch- lay carrots and hay in their shoes for the horses hoping that St. Nicholas will exchange for small gifs.
Our family tradition? We hang our stockings the night of the 5th of December. Small gifts are given, like ornaments, candies, socks, oranges, etc. I have loved this as a child and still love it this day! Hope you all learned something from this and maybe start a fun tradition with your family.
He’s Making a list and he is checking it twice, but who really does the checking??
Why of course his little elves! Yes, this is from one of my pages from Christmas time. Still thought all you parents should know about it)!
So many people have been hearing about the lovely book of the Elf on the Shelf. My sister bought this a few years ago but I feel like it has been booming more recently. Success with her kids? Y.E.S. I love this idea and what a fun tradition to have with your family. I still have yet to do this. My little one is a little young still to understand so I can’t wait for the fun to begin with him!
How does it work? Well, first you “adopt” your elf once you bring it home with you…well, once you buy it. You name him and then this little elf comes to life once you read your story to your little one/s. You place him in a special spot after but here is the thing, no one can “touch” him. Other wise, his magic powers this little elf has will never work again. So make sure your kids know that one.
How does Mr. Santa know who has been naughty or nice? Well at night, when everyone is all snuggled up in their beds, he flies with his magical powers to the North pole and reports to Santa of all the happenings within the family. Of course, who has been naughty or nice. But, before everyone wakes up in the morning, he is back. Here is the other thing, he doesn’t not go back to the same spot he was before. He likes to move around and have fun. (some helpful tips to place him: fire place mantles, bedrooms, beds, fridges, chandeliers or lamps). So lastly, when does your elf head back? After Christmas Eve…until then, beginning of Decemeber.
So for all you mamas out there, if you feel your child has been a little trouble this year, go and adopt the Elf on the Shelf. Maybe some magic may occur in your own home this year…
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Bet you have been seeing this deliciousness all over the place. Let me tell ya, they werepretty good and quite easy to make. I found this recipe via Daisy’s World . The frosting was so delicious…mouth watering. Enjoy!
Santa Hat Brownies
1 pan of your favorite brownies, cooled and cut into desired size and shape (I used a round cutter)
12-16 small strawberries, cleaned and hulled
vanilla-mascarpone buttercream (recipe below)
Mascarpone Buttercream Ingredients:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
8 ounces mascarpone cheese, room temperature
2-1/2 to 3 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
pinch of salt
Using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, beat butter and mascarpone cheese until light and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add vanilla extract and salt. Add 2-1/2 cups of sugar, half a cup at a time and continue beating until smooth. Add more sugar, if needed to reach desired consistency and sweetness.
To assemble, pipe a ring of vanilla buttercream on top of each brownie. Cut off the base of a strawberry so it is flat and place it upside down on each brownie, pushing slightly to secure in place. Top the tip of the strawberry with a dot of buttercream to finish the santa hat.
So did you guys survive the best day of your childs life ever?? I sure hope so! Every kid looks forward to this day and it flies by. I love hearing stories of how they will wake up at the wee hours to see what Santa brought…but to continue to wake up their parents at 2 A.M. to see too… can’t wait for those days… Anyways, hope you all had a fantastic Christmas! Hope their kids didn’t get upset whatsoever with what they received and were grateful.
Just a side note, make sure all little pieces are picked up off the floor in case your little one is crawling and proceeding to put anything in their mouth!
So I mentioned that I am going to do top 10 gifts for babies from Santa, I can do one for toddlers too. There are so many out there so I am just going to do the top 10 for all genders- it won’t be in order of the “greatest” but just to help you all out. Hope this helps!!
